Week 4 – Kazachstan - Anne Hallez
Dear Bloggers,
Our next stop is the country Kazachstan. Perhaps a country which we all know as the home town of the fictional person 'Borat'.
For
those of you who don’t know, Borat is a movie about a Kazakh journalist leaving his
country to go visit the United States of America. These associations have actually caused a
lot of confusion and even a few unexpected incidents. Borat had actually a parody
on the national anthem of Kazachstan.Which you can see in this
short movie.
.
As you can see, the people of Kazachstan aren't always pleased with the misunderstandings caused by the character 'Borat'. The movie may have put the country of Kazachstan on the map, but there’s much more tho this country than expected.
I think by visisiting and showing you these beautiful parts of the country. We want to set the record straight and show that there's more to Kazachstan than Borat!
When we arrived at the largest park in Kazachstan we were amazed by just how large the park actually was. One would underestimate the strength of 520 thousand hectare of ground, so the sight of it made us litterally gasp for air.
We were immediately surrounded by mountains larger than buildings could ever reach. These mountains, called the Katatau mountains, are uniquely build because the lava from active volcanoes left wonderfull images carved on the rocks.
Walking trough these mountain I was sure of it that there isn’t a place like this. I’m amazed by the sight of the power of nature and the cohesion of chaos and beauty it creates.
For a usually very talkative group, we found ourselves quiet at a lot of times amazed by the things we laid our eyes on.
Exhausted by the very active and long walk and the trip in general, we decided to bed early. I on the other hand, decided to give you bloggers a scoop what this week will bring you and especially what this week will bring us.
I’m off to have a good night sleep. For all of you on a different time period,
Good morning, Good afternoon, Good night.
All my love,
Anne
We arrive
at dawn at a city called ‘Almaty’. This isn’t just a city though, Almaty was
the capital of Kazachstan until 1995. Almaty has still the largest population
and is still the econonomical centre of the country but it knows a new capital
now called ‘Astana’, which we will visit later.
We had a pretty busy scedule that way so we had to leave for the Altyn-Emel State National Park right away.
